The Human Figure
Each and every person is unique. This allows for a great opportunity to learn about new cultures and new hobbies. This also provides a new challenge for an artist to conquer. To make a person look like a person is not very difficult. To make a specific person look like that specific person--well--that takes lots of practice. |
"Propagation"
This piece was a challenge, yet it was one of the most exciting pieces I have created. The materials...a pepper, some coffee, and charcoal. The instructions...be free. |
Self Freedom
Black glue, watercolor, ink, and me! There is the calm, cool colors that make up the face, and then...BAM! There is the background. On the outside, I may be calm and collective, but behind the calm there lies a bold and bright individual...me! |
Up, Up, and Away
One of my favorites. The simplicity of shapes, yet a complex story to be told. The tree is created from newsprint, and the figure is created from a map. |
A Summer Day
I love the colors and the patterns on this piece. Although simple, I love the graphic feel it has to it. |
The Human Knee
The task was to recreate a close up of an object. What did I choose? A statue's knee...how interesting is that! |
Grrrr
My totem animal is a bear. Before I read about its meaning, I was very doubtful. I didn't see myself as an aggressive person; however, after doing some research, I learned that the bear symbolized mothers and a new beginning. For my painting I focused more on the renewal that bears bring and painted a bear coming out of hibernation. |
The Tractor
This was one of my turning points this year. Never would I have thought that I would do something so great. Although this piece doesn't have the emotional connection that most of my animal pieces have, I love all the textures and rust I was able to create just with watercolor. |
Tweet, Tweet
Oh man! I feel like I have said this so many times, but this piece is so awesome! I feel like I did a fantastic job at making this bird look pretty realistic, and then I added the collage aspect by adding real tree branches. This painting just has a nice nature feeling to it. |
Cherry Pie!
The surface painting. The most daunting painting of them all. In this piece I tested my skills as an artist, and I think that the final product was pretty successful. It makes me want to eat some cherry pie even though I'm not so fond of it. |
My Closet
I took my clothes for granted. When I began the project, I underestimated the complexity of each article of clothing. It was a painful process to finish all three, but in the end, all ended up looking pretty realistic. |
Spooky
The project was to draw a still life and add some Escher like aspects to it. It started as a basket in the middle of the art table and ended up being a trail of stick men walking unconsciously to the 'pit of darkness.' I love this piece for I feel like my true feelings were expressed in this piece and who doesn't like art with stick men :) |
